Evans paid about $10 million for the rare black 1964 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, the Daily Telegraph said.

"I need a Budweiser", Evans, a Radio 2 disc jockey, quipped during a fierce bidding battle at the specialist auction at Ferrari's press track in Modena Sunday night.

The Telegraph said auctioneer Peter Bainbridge replied: "A Budweiser? We'll get you a whole case."

"I love it, it's great", Evans said after he won the bidding for his new ride. "I didn't expect it to go for that price, but I'm fine, absolutely calm. I've just had a Guinness."
