BAKERSFIELD, Calif., July 23 (UPI) -- California officials say they are searching for a bear that attacked a woman in the mountains near Bakersfield.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Allena Hansen, 57, was able to drive herself to the Kern County fire station in search of help after a bear attacked her Tuesday, KBAK-TV Bakersfield, Calif., reported.

Hansen was airlifted to the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center for treatment of serous wounds to her face, KBAK said.

Hansen's friend, August Dunning, told reporters Hansen was with two large dogs when the bear attacked.

"All she'd tell us was she was at a ranch up on Piute Moutain Road and a bear attacked her and her two dogs intervened", Kern County Fire Capt. Curt Merrill said.

Dunning said the dogs had minor wounds. A UCLA spokesperson would not reveal Hansen's condition.

KBAK said the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services will have help from the California Department of Fish and Game in finding and killing the bear.
