ATLANTA, May 3 (UPI) -- Kellie Pickler says she excited about performing for students at a Georgia high school whose text-messaging won them a concert by the "American Idol" finalist.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Thanks to 500,000 text messages from students at Etowah High School in Cherokee County during a 10-day period, the school will receive a visit from the popular "Idol" singer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday.

The free concert was part of a contest held by Atlanta radio station WKHX-FM. Pickler said she was excited to hear how dedicated her fans were to winning the promotion.

Through her personal Web site, the "Small Town Girl" singer said she was amazed to learn that more than 2 million text messages were sent to the station by Georgia students.

"Are you serious? Two million texts? That's crazy ... that's like 'Idol' crazy", the singer said online. "I'm so excited to be doing this show, and I haven't been out of high school very long myself, so it's like playing for my peers. I hope they don't make me take class while I'm there!"
