PLYMOUTH, Mass., July 1 (UPI) -- Plymouth, Mass., the oldest town in New England, has been roiled by a dispute over a large sign reading "Hollywood East" that blocks views of a war memorial.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The sign on the grounds of the Plymouth County Courthouse was erected with official permission by a group of film industry executives who plan to open a studio in Plymouth, The Boston Globe reported. It has the enthusiastic support of many business owners who hoped it would lure tourists from Plymouth Rock and the rest of the historic waterfront to the shopping district.

But veterans told the Globe the sign shouldn't be in front of the monument to those who served in wars in Korea and Vietnam. They have also rejected the film groups' proposal to move the monument down the street to the Veterans' Memorial Hall, site of two other war memorials.

Now, the sign is to come down Monday. That means it will still block the view of the monument on July 4, which does not sit well with veterans, the Globe said.
