| NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The USS Intrepid has returned to its New York pier after $115 million in upgrades to the floating sea, air and space museum. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS The Intrepid returned to its port in the city's Manhattan borough Thursday with nearly 300 World War II veterans on board, the New York Daily News reported Friday. The 38,900-ton aircraft carrier, which was taken to a New Jersey dry dock for hull repairs in December 2006 before moving to a New York naval dock for interior work, survived five Kamikaze attacks during World War II. The overhaul project also included refurbishing the museum's 16 military aircraft. The Intrepid, which was first launched in 1943, will reopen to the public as a museum -- a function it served for 26 years before the repairs -- Nov. 8. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Related News Topics:
