A statement from the U.S.-led coalition said four troops were killed near Kandahar when an improvised bomb detonated and was followed by small-arms fire from unknown sources, the Alalam News Network reported.

"Four coalition service members were killed and two more were seriously wounded today in an IED (improvised explosive device) strike while conducting operations in Kandahar province", the statement read.

A bomb explosion in Farah province overnight also claimed the life of one coalition member, the coalition said.

Meanwhile, in Paktika province, a Polish soldier serving in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force was killed in another improvised bomb explosion, the Polish Defense Ministry said.

The news network said the deaths brought the total death toll this year of foreign soldiers in Afghanistan to 99.
