United Press International The husband of a U.S. Army nurse whose charred remains were found in a shallow grave near Camp Lejeune, N.C., has been charged with her slaying, police say.

Marine Cpl. John Wimunc, 23, husband of 24-year-old Army 2nd Lt. Holley Wimunc, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death, the Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer reported Tuesday. Also charged was Marine Lance Cpl. Kyle Alden, 22, whom authorities said helped Wimunc dispose of his wife's body.

The two Marines were stationed at Camp Lejuene while Holley Wimunc was a pediatrics nurse at nearby Fort Bragg. Police said the Wimuncs, who been married for year, were obtaining a divorce and that Holley Wimunc had filed a restraining order against her husband after claiming he held a gun to her head.

A burned body found in a sparsely wooded area near Camp Lejeune has not yet been positively identified as Holley Wimunc's, but the woman's father has confirmed it, the Observer said.

Authorities said the body showed signs of mutilation and the park ranger who found the body reported knives and hatchets were present at the gravesite.
