ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- At least 20 people were killed and more than 60 were injured Monday in a suicide bomb attack aimed at a lawmaker in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province.

Police said the target of the attack, National Assembly Member Rashid Akbar Nawani, was injured but survived. The attack occurred in Nawani's home when the bomber detonated explosives at a party celebrating the end of the Islamic festival of Eid al Fitr that was attended by hundreds of people, the Los Angeles Times reported.

It was the third suicide attack against a Pakistani party leader in less than a week.

The Interior Ministry and local police say last Thursday a suicide bomber killed Asfandyar Wali Kahn, leader of the Awami National Party.

Suspected insurgents fired rockets Sunday at the home of a provincial official in Pakistan's North-West Frontier province, the Times said.
