OGDEN, Utah, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Officials in the city of Ogden, Utah, allege in the lawsuits against area residents that they are financially responsible for their children's actions.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The Salt Lake Tribune said Wednesday that in a series of 2nd District Court civil suits filed last week, Ogden officials charged the parents of five suspected gang members who allegedly vandalized city property.

Ogden City Attorney Mike Junk said last Friday's lawsuits were filed under a state law that allows officials to charge parents for intentional damage inflicted on city property by their children.

He said the five teenagers involved in the lawsuit were allegedly caught vandalizing such property and their parents face $2,000 fines for each individual incident.

Junk told the Tribune such legal actions are part of Ogden officials' attempt to urge parents to take a more active role in their children's lives in order to prevent such illegal actions.
