NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- An attempt to tranquilize a black bear in New Jersey in order to reclaim a monitoring collar was disrupted by an animal-rights activist, police allege.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Police have arrested 58-year-old Susan Kehoe for allegedly stopping a state wildlife biologist from shooting a tranquilizer dart into a bear that was adorned with a satellite-radio collar used for monitoring purposes, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger said Thursday.

Police said in a press release that Kehoe allegedly disrupted Wednesday's wildlife effort in Vernon, N.J., in an attempt to protect the bear.

The incident marked the most recent alleged illicit activity on the part of the anti-bear-hunting activist, who previously faced charges for feeding bears sunflower seeds in her own backyard.

While that case in March resulted in charges of disorderly conduct and creating a public nuisance against Kehoe, her recent arrest has led to allegations of obstruction and resisting arrest, the Star-Ledger reported.
