ATLANTA, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A ban on carrying firearms at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport should not be enforced, a lawsuit alleges.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Officials with GeorgiaCarry.org are suing the airport and the city of Atlanta in an attempt to earn a temporary injunction that would stop the firearm ban from being enforced at the popular airport, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Monday.

Attorney John Monroe, who is representing the firearms group, said his side is "confident" the case will result in an injunction.

"We're confident in the case", said Monroe, whose case was scheduled to begin Monday in U.S. District Court. "Getting a preliminary injunction is difficult. But we are confident in the ultimate outcome of the case."

Georgia instituted a new state law July 1 that allows firearms to be carried on mass transit, along with state parks and restaurants that serve alcohol.

Yet city officials immediately deemed the airport a gun-free zone under a state law that forbids firearms at public gatherings, the Journal-Constitution said.
