KENTVILLE, Nova Scotia, May 13 (UPI) -- A tobacco store operator in Canada's eastern province of Nova Scotia was charged Tuesday for storing tobacco and displaying it for sale.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Bob Gee, of Mader's Tobacco Store in Kentville, contacted the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., to express his exasperation with the charges under a provincial law that bans the display of tobacco products.

"Our business is 95 percent tobacco, and they're basically telling me by charging me that I'm guilty of doing my job", Gee told the CBC. "For the last year and a half we've been dealing with extremists, and they've had a total hatred toward tobacco -- no ifs, ands or buts -- and that's unfortunate."

Gee's case was scheduled go to court June 16, and he told the CBC he intends to fight the charges.

The fine for a first offense is $2,000, while a second conviction has a maximum fine of $5,000, while the third conviction fine jumps to $10,000, the report said.
