| SAN FRANCISCO, July 29 (UPI) -- Major retailers are closely watching a measure in San Francisco that would ban pharmacies from selling cigarettes, The Wall Street Journal said Tuesday. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS The innocuous-sounding proposal that went before the Board of Supervisors Tuesday afternoon could have a big impact on major drug store chains that do a good business selling smokes. The Journal also said the ban could have an impact on plans by major chain retailers such as Wal-Mart to offer health-clinic services in their stores by forcing them to choose between selling cigarettes or running clinics. While Wal-Mart doesn't have a store in San Francisco, the citywide ban could be picked up by other California cities as a means of improving the health of their citizens. The newspaper said similar measures in other parts of the United States have been proposed, but so far none has made it into law. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Related News Topics:
