WINNIPEG, Manitoba, July 10 (UPI) -- Air Canada began detailing its planned layoff of 2,000 workers, saying 630 of them will be flight attendants in three cities.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

From its headquarters in Montreal, the company said in June it was forced to scale back services and personnel because of soaring fuel prices.

"There will be 300 Vancouver-based flight attendants subject to layoff as a direct result of the decrease in international long-haul flying this fall", Air Canada spokeswoman Angela Mah told the Winnipeg Free Press.

She said after the November Vancouver layoffs, 145 more attendants based in Winnipeg would be let go, along with the complete closure of the Halifax, Nova Scotia, attendants base of 187 jobs.

About 80 maintenance workers in Winnipeg and another 80 in Montreal will also be laid off as part of the cuts, Mah told the newspaper.
