OWEN SOUND, Ontario, July 15 (UPI) -- A Canadian manufacturer of automotive shock absorbers is laying off 104 workers, a move directly linked to General Motors' problems, company officials said.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Tenneco Canada in Owen Sound, Ontario, informed the 104 workers Monday, the Owen Sound Sun Times reported.

"These are jobs that we don't anticipate coming back", Tenneco Human Resources Manager Mark Beaul told the newspaper. "This is a direct result of General Motors' decision to reduce production of lightweight trucks and SUVs."

The company formerly known as Monroe, facing its first layoff in 10 years, will keep the affected workers until Sept. 8 and be left with 420 full-time staff, the report said.

A domino effect of automotive supplier layoffs began when GM announced last month it was closing a plant in Oshawa, east of Toronto, another in Mexico and two in the United States.
