WAUKESHA, Wis., June 24 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin music promoter has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for spending $1 million he got from investors on drugs and cars.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Thomas Anderson of Madison, who got the money to promote a band named Tasty Wonton, also was ordered Monday to spend seven years in intensive supervision and five years on probation, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.

Waukesha County Circuit Reserve Judge John Fiorenza said he structured the sentence to combine punishment with incentives to Anderson to repay investors. Restitution is one of the conditions of his release, and he could be returned to prison if he fails to follow through.

Tasty Wonton, which has since changed its name to Bascom Hill, is a real band. But Anderson, convicted of felony theft and making false statements in the sale of securities, kept few or no records of where investors' money was being spent. Much of it appears to have gone to buying cocaine, renting private jets and buying fast cars.

One victim, Jeff Cox, said he was robbed by someone he liked and trusted.

"It would have been kinder if he would have held a gun to my head and taken the money that way", he said.
