Brooks, 66, his son Brady Brooks, 38, of Sacramento, Calif., and Walter Barger, 63, of Portland, Ore., were in a 15-foot drift boat on the McKenzie River Monday when it capsized, throwing the men into the river, the Eugene (Ore.) Register-Guard reported Tuesday. None of the men was wearing a life jacket, but all were able to swim to nearby gravel bar, authorities said.

None of the three suffered any serious injuries. A passing fisherman called emergency dispatchers when he saw the boat overturn after hitting a log in the river, the newspaper said.

Brooks coached 18 seasons at the University of Oregon, taking the Ducks to the Rose Bowl in 1994, the team's first appearance there in 37 seasons. He left the school in 1995 to coach the St. Louis Rams in the National Football League and served as the Atlanta Falcons' defensive coordinator before Kentucky hired him in 2003, the Register-Guard said.
