PARK CITY, Utah, June 24 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods' surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Tuesday was successful, his doctor said.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas D. Rosenberg and Dr. Vernon J. Cooley in Park City, Utah. The doctors performed arthroscopic surgery on the same knee in April.

"We were confident going into this surgery and I am pleased with the results", Rosenberg said in a statement released by Woods' management group, IMG. "There were no surprises during the procedure, and as we have said, with the proper rehabilitation and training, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Woods will have any long-term effects as it relates to his career."

The surgery came eight days after Woods won his third U.S. Open. He needed 91 holes to defeat Rocco Mediate.

"It was important to me to have the surgery as soon as possible so that I could begin the rehabilitation process", Woods said. "I look forward to returning to the PGA Tour healthy next year."
