OTTAWA, June 22 (UPI) -- Right wing Marian Hossa of the Pittsburgh Penguins says he plans to test the free-agent waters this NHL off-season, a report said.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Penguins General Manager Ray Shero told reporters at this weekend's NHL draft in Ottawa that Hossa told him he was going to explore his options, ESPN.com reported.

"He's going to July 1", Shero said Saturday.

The report said the Penguins were believed to have offered Hossa a seven-year deal worth about $49 million, and that his agent, Ritchie Winter, declined the deal.

"I think we made him a very fair contract offer", Shero said. "I believe he just wants to be sure."

Last season, the 10-year veteran compiled 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists) while playing for both Atlanta and the Penguins in 72 regular-season contests.

He added a team-best 12 goals and 14 assists for the Penguins in the post-season.
