TAMPA, Fla., June 25 (UPI) -- Bill Barber, the Tampa Bay Lightning's director of player personnel, announced Wednesday he will vacate the post effective Tuesday.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The 55-year-old Barber helped rebuild the NHL team in the first part of this decade and was a key cog in its 2004 Stanley Cup title.

"It hasn't been a secret to anyone in the organization that the travel these past few years has taken a bit of a toll on me", Barber said on the team's Web site. "I would like to spend some quality time with my family; they deserve that. I would like to thank the staff there for working so well with me during the past six years. We won a Stanley Cup together and I will never forget what we were able to accomplish."

In a 12-year playing career, Barber also was part of the two-time cup champion Philadelphia Flyers and is a member of the NHL hall of fame.
