MARANELLO, Italy, July 11 (UPI) -- Italian company Ferrari's Formula One team announced it has dropped a lawsuit that claimed a British racing team illegally possessed data belonging to Ferrari.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The automaker's team said it has received a concluding payment from British racing rival McLaren that will be donated to charity, ANSA reported Friday.

"Ferrari acknowledges McLaren's reiterated apology for the well-known events which occurred during the 2007 Formula One Championship and, in the best interests of Formula One and taking into account the formal closure in December 2007 of the FIA and FIA World Motor Sport Council proceedings against McLaren, it confirms that it has accepted to put an end to all outstanding controversies between the two teams", Ferrari said in a statement.

However, Ferrari said it will continue to pursue legal action against Nigel Stepney, a former chief engineer for the Italian racing team who is accused of giving the 780-page dossier of Ferrari data to Mike Coughlan, chief designer for McLaren, prior to the 2007 season.
