MAGNY COURS, France, June 22 (UPI) -- Felipe Massa beat Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen to capture Sunday's Formula One Prix of France in Magny Cours.

To win for the third time this season on the F1 circuit, Massa crossed the finish line 17.984 seconds ahead of runner-up Raikkonen, who was hampered in the race's late stages by a broken exhaust.

Massa held a 14-second margin over Raikkonen with 15 laps to go after he overtook his teammate during Lap 39 and cruised home to win for the eighth time in his F1 career.

"That was fantastic", Massa told BBC Sports. "I didn't expect that. Sometimes you need a bit of luck, and we got that with Kimi's exhaust. It was a good present."

Jarno Trulli (Toyota), Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren Mercedes) and Robert Kubica (BMW) completed the top-five finishers.

Massa took first place in the driver standings with 48 points, while Kubica dropped to second, two points behind Massa, with his fifth-place finish.
