GLADEVILLE, Tenn., July 13 (UPI) -- Cindy McCain rode in the pace car at the Nashville Superspeedway Saturday as a part of her husband's presidential campaign outreach to racing fans.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The Nashville Tennessean reported Sunday that Cindy McCain said she is confident that fans at the Firestone 200 IndyCar series will support her husband, Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee.

"He is the candidate with the most experience, and the kind of experience we need for these times", she said. "This is not the time in our history that we want on-the-job training. He has the kind of character and life decisions that bring so much to the table."

Cindy McCain recently returned from a tour of Southeast Asia with several charitable organizations, including Operation Smile, which repairs cleft palates and other facial deformities for children in poor countries.

She has worked with the organizations for years.

"Well, it's part of what I do", she said. "Win or lose -- of course I hope we win -- but win or lose, it's what I do and it's kind of what makes me tick and it's important to me."

Next week, she heads to Africa with former Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., with the One Campaign, an anti-poverty charity founded by U2 rocker Bono.
