United Press International Reed Johnson capped an eight-run, eighth-nning rally Sunday with a three-run double that lifted the Chicago Cubs to a 9-2 win over the Florida Marlins.

Chicago faced a 2-0 deficit after seven innings before the outburst.

Johnson finished with four hits in five at-bats.

Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano had two RBI apiece. Kosuke Fukodome knocked in one run, while Mike Fontenot added two hits for the National League Central-leading Cubs, winners in nine of their last 11 games.

Winning pitcher Ryan Dempster (14-5) gave up two earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out 10 batters.

He is one victory shy of equaling his career-high in wins set in 2001 while pitching for the Marlins.

Florida's Luis Gonzalez and John Baker both had one RBI. Jorge Cantu had two of the six hits for the Marlins, who have dropped four of five.

The losing pitcher was reliever Renyel Pinto (2-5).
