| MANCHESTER, England, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Manchester United reported Wayne Rooney will miss the start of the season after the England international picked up a virus on a preseason trip to Nigeria. United is scheduled to face Newcastle on Sunday Aug. 17 but a club spokesman said, "I doubt we'll get Rooney fit for the start of the season with the virus he's had."
