ANAHEIM, Calif., May 15 (UPI) -- A grand slam in the eighth Wednesday by American League home run leader Carlos Quentin lifted the Chicago White Sox past the Los Angeles Angels 6-1.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

It was the 10th homer of the season for Quentin and broke a 1-1 tie. The blast came off Scot Shields (2-1), who started the eighth in relief of John Lackey.

Lackey made his first appearance of the season a solid one, giving up a run on six hits over seven innings. He had been out of action since suffering a strained right triceps March 21.

Jose Contreras (4-3) allowed a run on four hits over seven innings to get the win.

Shields gave up a single to Juan Uribe to open the eighth and Orlando Cabrera reached on an infield single. The runners moved up a base when shortstop Erick Aybar threw wildly to first trying to get Cabrera.

With first base open, A.J. Pierzynski was walked intentionally and Quentin promptly hit a 2-0 pitch over the wall in center.

The Angels had a two-game winning streak halted and lost for the fifth time in seven games. Chicago had lost its previous three outings.
