CHICAGO, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Miguel Cabrera put Detroit up early with a two-run home run Thursday and the Tigers ended a six-game losing streak with an 8-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Cabrera finished with three RBI. His homer into the left-field bullpen in the third inning gave Detroit a 2-0 lead and the Tigers were on top 4-0 before Chicago got on the board.

Carlos Guillen was 2-for-2 with three walks, an RBI and three runs scored for Detroit.

Winning pitcher Zach Miner (6-4) allowed two runs and seven hits over six innings.

Carlos Quentin belted a solo homer for the Sox, his 30th home run of the season.

Javier Vazquez (8-10) took the loss. Vazquez struck out eight batters but walked four and gave up five runs and eight hits in seven innings.
