Kyle Kendrick (8-3) scattered seven hits and three runs over six-plus innings. He had a shutout over the first six innings but allowed three runs in the seventh.

Pat Burrell also homered and drove in two runs for the Phillies, who had lost nine of their 11 previous games.

Major league batting leader Chipper Jones returned to Atlanta's lineup, going 1-for-3 with two walks.

Rookie Charlie Morton (1-2) gave up five runs on eight hits in two-plus innings to take the loss.
