CHICAGO, July 24 (UPI) -- An Illinois man said he hopes to surprise his son by having him throw the first pitch at a Cubs game after the boy was hit by a foul ball at Wrigley Field.

Dominic DiAngi, 7, of Frankfort, Ill., was allowed to leave the hospital July 16, about a week after he was hit in the head by a foul ball at his first Chicago Cubs baseball game, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday.

The boy's father, Peter DiAngi, said he plans to take his son to a Cubs game Saturday as a birthday surprise, where he will be allowed to toss out the first pitch.

"This kid loves the Cubs and I'm looking forward to actually seeing his expression when we steps onto that infield grass", the boy's father said. "Doctors said it's OK for him to throw but not catch."

The Sun-Times said it is rumored Cubs starting pitcher Ted Lilly, who was up to bat when the ball drilled Dominic DiAngi, will receive the opening pitch.
