HOUSTON, July 25 (UPI) -- Nancy Lieberman, 50, Thursday became the oldest woman ever to play in a WNBA game when she appeared in the Detroit Shock's 79-61 loss to the Comets in Houston.

Lieberman, Detroit's coach from 1998-2000, has spent the last 27 years as an analyst for both men's and women's basketball on the ESPN cable sports network.

She signed a seven-day contract with the Shock because the team was left short-handed by the 11 suspensions handed down by league officials Thursday, stemming from a brawl during Tuesday night's contest between the Shock and Los Angeles Sparks.

Lieberman's line included no points, two assists and two turnovers in nine minutes.

Detroit said on its Web site Wednesday that 2007 WNBA All-Star Game MVP and 2003 WNBA Rookie of the Year Cheryl Ford will miss the remainder of the regular season because of a torn right knee ligament.

Ford was injured while tying to grab a rebound late in Tuesday's contest, a pre-amble to the brawl.
