SAN FRANCISCO, July 2 (UPI) -- Matt Cain struck out 10 Chicago Cubs Tuesday, keeping them from scoring for eight innings en route to a 2-1 San Francisco victory.

Cain scattered two hits and three walks to improve to 5-6 in helping the Giants to their third win in four outings.

Fred Lewis went 2-for-4, scoring on a steal of home and on Randy Winn's RBI hit.

Brian Wilson gave up an RBI single to center by Geovany Soto that scored Derek Lee, who tripled to lead off the ninth, and allowed Mike Fontenot single before finally securing his National League-best 23rd save.

Cubs starter Jason Marquis (6-5) allowed just two runs on four hits and three walks but was stuck with the loss. He struck out five over seven innings.

The Cubs have lost five of their last six.
