The overall purchasing managers index reached 50.2, slightly ahead of the break even point of 50, ISM said.

Overall, employment maintained a weak position, falling for the eighth straight month with a reading of 47.5, while prices, up for the 10th month in a row, soared with a reading of 91.5.

Production gained for the second consecutive month with activity increasing in computer and electronics, fabricated metal products, paper products, and petroleum and coal sectors.

Wood products, electrical equipment, appliances, machinery, and four other sectors contracted in the month.

Exports grew during June with a reading of 58.5, while imports contracted to 46.0, the report said.
