WASHINGTON, July 9 (UPI) -- The U.S House and Senate will adjourn Sept. 26, giving Congress about six to eight weeks to finish an agenda Democrats say is being held up by Republicans.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., agreed to House adjournment date, which the lower chamber set last year, The Hill reported Wednesday. The Senate date was uncertain until Tuesday.

Leaders in both houses have acknowledged that many of the annual spending bills will not pass before the election.

"I don't think he should be waiting in bated breath to get these bills anyway, because he's unwilling to work with us", Reid said recently, referring to President George Bush. "The point is we're going to have a lot of trouble doing our appropriations bills this year because of the inability of the White House to compromise on anything."

In August, the Senate will focus on passage of a gas prices bill, consumer product safety legislation, a measure that would address the spread of AIDS in Africa and a bill that would extend energy production tax incentives, the Washington publication said.
