SEOUL, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush said Wednesday in Seoul that U.S. relations with South Korea remain strong in face of threats from North Korea.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Bush, who is on a weeklong Asian tour, told a Seoul news conference, "I am concerned about North Korea's human rights record. I am concerned about the uranium enrichment ...", CNN reported. South Korean President Lee Myung-bak was with the president at the news conference.

North Korea is in the process of dismantling its nuclear facilities as part of its nuclear disarmament under the six-nation effort.

Bush, however, said Pyongyang has a long way to go before it is removed from the U.S. list of countries sponsoring terrorism, the report said.

Earlier, thousands of people assembled on Seoul streets to protest Bush's visit, the report said, adding at least 80 of them were detained.

Yonhap news agency quoted Bush as saying the United States will work with South Korea until North Korea has completely given up its nuclear ambitions to make the Korean Peninsula nuclear free.

In a speech at Yongsan Garrison, he assured U.S. troops would stay on the Korean Peninsula, "no question about it", Yonhap reported.

The president left for Thailand Wednesday. He will attend Friday's opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Beijing.
