WASHINGTON, March 12 (UPI) -- Terrorism-related charges have been filed against Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detainee Mohammed Kamin of Afghanistan, the U.S. Defense Department said.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Kamin is charged with providing material support to terrorism, violating the Military Commissions Act of 2006, the department said in a release. If convicted, the accused faces up to life in prison.

Kamin is the 13th Guantanamo detainee charged under the Military Commissions Act.

The charges allege that between January and May of 2003, Kamin supported terrorism by joining al-Qaida and receiving training on making remote bomb detonators, modifying military ammunition and using small arms for attacks against U.S. and coalition forces.

Kamin also was alleged to have reconnoitered U.S. military bases, placed explosives in several locations in Afghanistan, transported equipment and weaponry, as well as launched missiles at Khowst, Afghanistan, which was occupied by U.S. and coalition troops at the time.

In compliance with the Military Commissions Act, the charges will be forwarded to the convening authority, the Honorable Susan Crawford, who may refer some, all or none of the charges to trial by military commission.
