POLL: Your Opinion

 » What Do You Think

LONDON, June 28 (UPI) -- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown appears to be a drag on the Labor Party, a poll released Saturday indicates.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The survey by ComRes for The Independent found that 46 percent of eligible voters would pick the Conservative Party if a general election were held now, while 25 percent would vote for Labor and 18 percent for the Liberal Democrats. The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats each advanced two points since the previous monthly poll, while Labor lost five.

But 27 percent said they identify with the Labor Party, while only 26 percent picked the Conservatives.

Labor has been through two humiliating by-elections. On Tuesday, Labor came in fifth in Henley, a safe Conservative district, behind the Greens and British National Party. In Crewe & Nantwich, the party lost what had been a safe Labor seat

Some Labor politicians are now talking about dumping Brown.

"It's a bad day when the BNP can beat Labor. It sticks in my craw", said Ronnie Campbell, a Labor member of Parliament. "I don't like to back losers. He is a loser at the moment."

ComRes surveyed 1,007 adults by telephone June 25-26.
