| JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- South Africa's ruling African National Congress has selected the party's deputy leader, Kgalema Motlanthe, to succeed Thabo Mbeki as president. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS "Kgalema is president, not acting. It's official", a source in the ANC's parliamentary caucus told Business Day on Monday. Motlanthe will serve as South Africa's president until elections can be conducted next spring. Earlier this month the ANC asked Mbeki to step down after a judge threw out a corruption, fraud and racketeering came against longtime rival Jacob Zuma. In taking that action, the judge called the case invalid and accused Mbeki's government of political interference in the case.
