| BEIJING, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Chinese officials say they have launched two natural disaster and environment monitoring satellites. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS The first of their kind put into space by China, the satellites are expected to enhance the Asian nation's natural disasters forecasting capabilities, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported Saturday. "The role of the satellites will be significant when China faces such natural disasters as this year's snowstorms and massive earthquake", said Bai Zhaoguang, a leading scientist and designer of the satellites. The satellites will have a lifespan of more than three years and carry state-of-the-art imaging systems, infrared cameras and provide a global scan every two days. They were launched on a rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi province. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
