BEIJING, June 30 (UPI) -- Discussions to achieve a denuclearized Korean peninsula have progressed meaningfully and were ready to enter a new phase, the Chinese foreign minister said.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said he and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice agreed the six-party talks made "significant progress" but more work needed to be completed, reported Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency.

Last week, North Korea submitted details of its nuclear program to Chinese officials. The United States lifted some sanctions and said it would remove the Asian country from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism in 45 days if North Korea meets its obligations under the six-party talks.

Members of the six-party talks are North and South Korea, China, the United States, Japan and Russia.

Yang said China is ready to work with all parties to take the opportunity to implement the remaining work in the second-phase in a comprehensive and balanced manner, advancing the discussions to a new phase, Xinhua reported.

"The meeting of the heads of delegations is conducive to the implementation of the remaining work in the second phase and starting a new phase", Yang said.
