ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 8 (UPI) -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf told reporters Saturday that rumors he plans to resign have no basis in fact.

He also warned that he would fight any attempt to change the constitution to reduce his presidential powers, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported.

"If any attempt was made to curtail my powers through any amendment in the constitution, I would not sit idle", he said.

Musharraf said he would make no attempt to dissolve parliament. He said he knows doing so would leave him in an unstable situation.

His party did poorly in parliamentary elections this year.

Musharraf, asked about possible impeachment, said that is in the hands of the parliament.
