| KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, June 8 (UPI) -- A 26-year-old Canadian soldier died in Afghanistan after stepping into a deep uncovered well while on night patrol outside of Kandahar, officials say. Jonathan Sutherland Snyder Saturday became the second Canadian captain to be killed in less than a week while patrolling the Zhari District on foot, Canwest News Service reported. "This tragic accident has deeply impacted us all. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Canadian Task Force are with Captain Snyder's fiancee Meghan, his parents and all those who loved him", Brig. Gen. Denis Thompson said. Officials said Snyder plummeted six stories after falling into the open well, known as a "kariz" by Afghanis.
