ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, May 25 (UPI) -- The Pakistan People's Party announced in Islamabad proposed constitutional amendments that would re-seat deposed judges and limit presidential authority.

The proposed amendments would limit the president's power by boosting the "majesty of the parliament" and place the authority to appoint provincial governors and top ministers in the hands of the prime minister, the Pakistani English daily Dawn said.

The proposal also includes a two-term presidential limit and a three-year limit on the tenure of the chief justice of the Pakistani Supreme Court.

Further amendments concern a retraction of the president's power to dismiss elected officials and dissolve the National Assembly and the abolition of the right to hold two government positions at once.

Pakistan People's Party leader and co-chairman of the Central Executive Committee Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday his party would rather see President Pervez Musharraf "walk away rather than impeach him away."
