KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- At least 70 people died and 120 buildings were destroyed in a weekend earthquake in southern Kyrgyzstan, the government said.

Temblors rumbled Monday in Central Asia with two strong earthquakes striking Tibet about 15 minutes apart, CNN reported, where officials are reporting at least 30 deaths.

Sunday's quake in Kyrgyzstan, measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale, rocked all of Central Asia but the destruction centered in the remote village of Nura, near the epicenter, on country's border with China, CNN rpeorted.

"The remoteness of the villages hit by the earthquake, the absence of means of communications and the destruction of roads are hindering assistance to the injured", the Kyrgyz Health Ministry press service told Interfax, Russia's non-governmental news agency.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake with epicenter in the Hindu Kush shook central Afghanistan Monday, CNN reported. There were no reports of casualties or damage from the stricken region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border..

In China, the National Seismological Network reported a 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook northwest China Sunday night but no casualties had been reported, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The epicenter was in a mountainous area about 60 miles from Wuqia County in the Kizilsu Kirgiz region.
