| WASHINGTON, Wales, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. corn crop is 96 percent dented and 52 percent at a mature state, the Department of Agriculture said Monday. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS The crop's five-year average for the dented stage is 98 percent for this week of the year, while the average crop maturity for this time of year is 79 percent, the department said. The corn harvest is under way, 9 percent done compared with an historical average of 21 percent done by this week. With identical numbers, soybean states report 9 percent of the harvest completed against and average of 21 percent for this time of year. In the country's six largest rice-producing states, 70 percent of the crop has been harvested, which lags behind the five-year average of 70 percent for this week of the year.
