Saeed Jalili said a "national consensus on the issue leads to national support for the country's peaceful nuclear activities", the official government news agency reported Sunday.

The comments came after the European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, presented to Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki a package of incentives aimed at enticing Tehran to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

The package offers Iran a set of political and economic incentives in exchange for the Middle Eastern country's suspension of its uranium enrichment activities.

Iranian officials have said they will not consider any proposal that would prevent them from pursuing nuclear technology for peaceful applications. Iran offered a counter proposal, it was reported.

"In our package, we did not make any demand but announced Iran's willingness for talks, which was welcomed by many countries", Jalili was quoted as saying.
