DAMASCUS, Syria, June 22 (UPI) -- A team of U.N. investigators set out Sunday to visit a Syrian desert complex attacked by Israeli warplanes as a suspected nuclear reactor site.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

The mission by the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency to Al Kibar will examine what, if any, evidence remains there of possible nuclear activity, Alalam Satellite TV reported.

Nine months after the September Israeli bombing, U.S. officials passed on satellite images to the IAEA they said supported Israel's contention Syria was using the site to build a nuclear reactor, but Syrian President Bashar Assad has vehemently denied any such activities.

Still, IAEA officials are looking to determine what was being done at the site, Alalam reported, quoting an unnamed senior diplomat described as close to the IAEA as saying, "The delegation will want Syria to explain what was at the (bombed) site.

"If Syria still says it was no reactor, they will want information to substantiate that. There is a plan to take samples on the spot."
