| GENEVA, Switzerland, June 16 (UPI) -- A United Nations agency in Switzerland is urging countries to link their child helplines to one telephone number, saying callers could get help more easily. SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS The proposed global child helpline number -- 116-111 -- is already used in a number of countries and was recommended by Child Helpline International, the U.N. International Telecommunications Union said in a news release. Children's Helpline International data for 2005 and 2006 indicate children and young people made more than 10.5 million calls to child helplines, where they gained access to support, counseling, referral and intervention, the U.N. agency said. "Child helplines have become a lifeline for vulnerable children in many countries", said Malcolm Johnson, ITU's Telecommunication Standardization Bureau director. "Having a single number that will work everywhere will benefit children in need around the world." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Related News Topics:
