WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. presidential nominee John McCain said Saturday his electoral rival, Barack Obama, has been exploiting the ongoing economic crisis.

SAVE MONEY ON TRAVEL DEALS

During his weekly radio broadcast, the Arizona senator accused the Democratic U.S. presidential nominee of trying to use nation's economic woes to earn additional support for the general election, The Hill reported.

"The response from Senator Obama to my Homeownership Resurgence Plan was typical of his response to the entire crisis", McCain said, referring to his proposal to help the ailing economy. "First, Senator Obama tried to claim that it was really his idea. But if anyone believed that claim, they didn't believe it for long because the very next day Senator Obama and his campaign attacked my plan to stabilize mortgages."

McCain also said he remains dedicated to his proposal to subsidize new mortgages for U.S. homeowners facing the loss of their homes, The Hill said.

"It's a simple idea", McCain said. "Take some of the money that Congress has already committed to fixing our financial system and use it to give millions of homeowners a new mortgage and a fresh start. No default. No bankruptcy. No foreclosure. No deteriorating neighborhoods."
